    Japan has spent years buying votes from developing nations on the International Whaling Commission to reopen commercial whaling, and they may finally have the votes they need to win the majority.

    If Japan finally succeeds, it will turn back the clock twenty years, and threaten the stability of many whale populations.

    It's up to the U.S. State Department to stop this from happening. As one of the principal authors of the whaling moratorium, the United States has a special responsibility both for creating the current situation, and for turning it around.

    The meeting begins on June 16, make sure you warn them before that date!



    Depuis des années, le Japon essaie d’acheter les votes des pays en développement à la Commission Internationale de la Pêche de la Baleine afin d’obtenir la réouverture du commerce de la baleine. Il est fort probable que les Japonais aient enfin réussi à obtenir le nombre de votes nécessaires pour obtenir la majorité.

    Si le Japon parvient à ses fins, on reviendra 20 ans en arrière et l’équilibre dans la population des baleines sera menacé.

    Les Etats-Unis peuvent faire pencher la balance.

    Le prochain vote aura lieu lors de la prochaine réunion de la commission qui commence le 16 juin. Prévenez les représentants américains avant cette date !
